Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has raised concerns over an alleged plan by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, to instigate mayhem in the state starting Monday, February 17, 2025.
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, Adeleke claimed that Oyetola is leading efforts to enforce a court ruling that reversed the removal of local government chairmen elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform.
He further alleged that the minister is working with key security officials, including the Osun State Commissioner of Police and the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), to destabilize the state.
“I am calling this press conference to alert both national and global audiences about a deliberate plot to create chaos and anarchy in Osun State,” Adeleke stated.
“This sinister agenda is being orchestrated by Minister Gboyega Oyetola, in collaboration with the Osun State Commissioner of Police, the Director of DSS, and the State Commandant of the Civil Defence Corps.
“I have full confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a democrat who upholds the rule of law. I do not believe he would support any unconstitutional action that could lead to violence or bloodshed.
“However, I regret to inform Mr. President and the public that Mr. Gboyega Oyetola has finalized plans to create disorder in Osun, using his influence to issue illegal directives to security operatives.”
Adeleke emphasized that the dispute revolves around an attempt to reinstate sacked council chairmen based on a court ruling that lacks a consequential enforcement order.
“These officials were removed before I assumed office as governor, contrary to false claims that I dismissed them through an executive order,” he clarified.
The governor called on security agencies and the federal government to intervene and prevent any unlawful actions that could disrupt peace in the state.
