The Kwara State Chapter of the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN) has appointed an interim leadership team to manage its affairs until a full-scale election can be conducted.
The decision, reached during a pivotal meeting at the University of Ilorin, aims to stabilize the chapter’s operations and promote greater participation within the Association.
Professor Adeshina Lukuman Azeez, the North Central Vice President of ACSPN, emphasized that the appointments were essential for the effective functioning of the chapter.
While the leadership is temporary, he stressed that it would provide the necessary foundation for a more inclusive and representative election process that aligns with the Association’s diverse membership.
Dr. Rasaq Mohammed Adisa, a prominent academic at the University of Ilorin, was named the new State Chairman of ACSPN. He will be supported by a robust team, including Dr. Victor Babatunde of Kwara State University, Malete, as Vice Chairman I; Mrs. Olatundun Kehinde of LENS Polytechnic, Offa, as Vice Chairman II; and Dr. T.O. Bankole of the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, as Secretary.
Other key positions in the interim administration include Mrs. Ololu Halimat of Kwara State Polytechnic as Assistant Secretary, Mr. Sholola Yusuf of Summit University, Offa, as Public Relations Officer, Mr. Mumeen AbdulHameed of Newland Polytechnic as Assistant Public Relations Officer, and Mr. Fatiu Olorungbebe of Kwara State Polytechnic as Financial Secretary. Dr. Wonuola Monsurat of Alhikmah University has been appointed Treasurer.
The leadership also includes regional mobilizing officers: Mr. Daranijo Habeeb for Kwara North, Mr. Thanni Maimasa for Kwara Central, and Mr. Areh Samuel for Kwara South.
Dr. Adisa used the occasion to urge Heads of Departments in communication-related disciplines across Kwara State to encourage faculty members and students to join ACSPN.
He also called on academic institutions to formalize their membership, which would help solidify the Association’s presence and expand its influence in the state.
In a bid to make the Association more inclusive, Dr. Adisa appealed to Professor Azeez to initiate discussions with the national leadership of ACSPN to include Higher National Diploma (HND) holders in communication fields as eligible members.
He argued that expanding membership eligibility would enhance the Association’s impact and foster greater professional collaboration.
The meeting concluded with a renewed sense of purpose and commitment, as attendees pledged to strengthen and unify the Kwara State chapter, ensuring it becomes a more dynamic and influential platform for communication professionals in the region.
