A 50-year-old farmer, Alfa Mustapha, was shot dead on his farmland in Ageri Village, near Olodo, in the Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Mustapha’s body was discovered lying face-up with his cutlass beside him after he failed to return home from his farm on Saturday.
Concerned about his absence, the Chief Imam of Ageri Mosque, Moshood Mustapha, went to the farm around 6:02 p.m., where he found the deceased.
Confirming the incident on Sunday, police spokesperson Omolola Odutola said the Imam reported the case to the Olodo Police Outstation at about 6:30 p.m.
“Upon receiving the report, officers visited the scene, took photographs, and transferred the body to the General Hospital, Odeda, for examination,” Odutola stated.
Initially, no visible signs of violence were detected due to heavy rainfall and poor visibility. However, a medical assessment later revealed bullet wounds from pellets, confirming that Mustapha was shot at close range.
Following this discovery, Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo ordered a thorough investigation to track down those responsible.
He urged anyone with relevant information to come forward, assuring that the police would do everything possible to ensure justice is served.
