Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has once again refuted accusations by former Rivers State governor, Dr. Peter Odili, that he attempted to convert the state into his personal estate.
Speaking at a luncheon in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Wike dismissed the claims, which he described as baseless, according to Channels TV.
Dr. Odili, who governed Rivers State for two terms, had alleged during an event in Port Harcourt on December 28 that Wike, also a former governor, acted out of self-interest. Odili lauded the current state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, for resisting Wike’s alleged attempts to dominate the state’s affairs.
“It is now over 12 months since October 25, 2023, when an intense, though unnecessary, existential fight was waged against Governor Fubara over the soul of Rivers State,” Odili said.
“With commendable resolve, Governor Fubara confronted the challenge, thwarted one man’s attempt to capture the state as his personal estate, emancipated Rivers people, stabilized governance, and restored the happiness of civil servants and residents, as was the norm before 2007,” he added.
