U.S. President Donald Trump has indicated that he may consider rejoining the World Health Organization (WHO). Speaking at a rally in Las Vegas, Trump addressed the possibility days after initiating the U.S. withdrawal from the global health agency due to its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and other international health crises.
“Maybe we would consider doing it again, I don’t know. Maybe we would. They would have to clean it up,” Trump remarked.
The U.S. is set to officially exit the WHO on January 22, 2026, following Trump’s directive. The decision was announced after his inauguration for a second term in the White House.
The U.S. is the largest financial contributor to the WHO, providing approximately 18% of its overall funding. Trump expressed dissatisfaction over the disparity between the U.S. contributions and those of China, a country with a significantly larger population.
During his address, Trump also revealed plans to request an increased investment from Saudi Arabia, seeking $1 trillion, up from the $600 billion already pledged. He stated that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman recently proposed $600 billion in expanded investment and trade with the U.S. over the next four years.
