Team FEDPOFFA has emerged victorious at the Offa Descendants Union North America (ODUNA) Volleyball Championship, a tournament organized by the Union to celebrate the 10th anniversary of ODUNA’s free medical mission in Offa, Kwara State.
The championship, which took place from January 10 to January 12, 2025, had its grand finale at the Zeems Sports Arena Offa, featured eight competitive teams.
The event was graced by members of ODUNA, who cheered on the athletes and celebrated the spirit of sportsmanship.
In addition to the trophies, cash prizes were awarded to the top three teams: ₦60,000 for the champions, along with gold medals, ₦30,000 for the runners-up, with silver medals, and ₦20,000 for the third-place team, who received bronze medals.
The championship also served as a preparatory platform for the 22nd Nigeria Polytechnic Games (NIPOGA), scheduled for April 2025.
According to Coach Samanja, the Sports Director of the Federal Polytechnic Offa (FEDPOFFA), the tournament was a valuable opportunity for the athletes to test their readiness.
“We are proud of their performance, but this is just the beginning. The school has high expectations, and we encourage them to keep improving,” said Coach Samanja during his congratulatory remarks.
The FEDPOFFA Volleyball Coach, Coach Suleiman Olayinka Ajeigbe (Coach Soba), also expressed his appreciation for the school management, especially the Rector, Engr. Dr. Kadiri Kamoru Oluwatoyin FNSE for his support in hosting the Nigeria Polytechnic Games for the first time in the institution’s history.
“This victory is a testament to the hard work of our athletes. We will continue to intensify our efforts to ensure an even better outing at NIPOGA 2025,” Coach Soba said.
In the female category, the FEDPOFFA women’s volleyball team emerged as first runners-up after a closely contested final against a more experienced side. Despite their loss, the team showed resilience and determination throughout the tournament.
The ODUNA Volleyball Championship not only highlighted the exceptional sporting talent in Offa but also strengthened community ties.
With the continued support of ODUNA and the dedication of athletes and officials, the future of volleyball in Offa looks promising.
