South African media personality, Kefilwe Mabote, has revealed the reason behind her decision to burn her expensive designer clothes following her recent commitment to her Christian faith.
Mabote sparked widespread reactions after posting a video of herself burning her designer pieces. While some praised her bold move, others criticized her, suggesting she could have donated the clothes to those in need.
Addressing the criticism in a new Instagram post, Mabote explained that her decision was guided by biblical principles, stating that such items are considered “accursed” according to scripture.
She wrote:
“I’ve received many questions about why I chose to burn Versace items instead of donating them, and I want to explain with care and understanding.
“The decision came from a place of conviction. The Bible teaches that certain things are ‘accursed’ (see Joshua 7:13). For example, the image of Medusa symbolizes a Greek god from the marine kingdom, and as Christians, we cannot serve two masters. Giving these items away would mean passing on something I no longer stand for. I cannot, in good conscience, transfer items that carry deep spiritual implications.”
Mabote’s decision has sparked further conversations about faith, material possessions, and the spiritual significance of personal convictions.
