Attahiru Bafarawa, former governor of Sokoto State, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Bafarawa, who served as the executive governor of Sokoto State from May 29, 1999, to May 29, 2007, disclosed his decision in a letter addressed to the PDP National Chairman. In the letter, he revealed his commitment to a new youth movement aimed at driving transformative change.
He emphasized that his focus will now be on creating opportunities for youth empowerment and avoiding any potential conflict of interest in his political pursuits.
As political alignments shift ahead of the 2027 elections, DAILY POST recently reported that Abbas Sani Abbas, a former Commissioner for Rural and Community Development in Kano State, has defected from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Abbas, previously a card-carrying member of the NNPP, was dismissed by Governor Abba Yusuf along with other officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Abdullahi Bichi. The dismissals came amidst calls from NNPP leaders urging the governor to take stronger control of governance in the state.
