The Nigerian government has officially submitted the necessary documentation to the Finnish government to facilitate the extradition of Simon Ekpa, a prominent Biafra agitator.
This was confirmed by General Christopher Musa, Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, during an interview on Channels Television.
“Well, I’m sure he’s cooling off somewhere,” Musa remarked. “Legal action will be taken accordingly. I don’t want to say too much, but I’m glad he’s been arrested. The Federal Government has provided most of the required documentation to the Finnish Government, so I’m confident the right steps will be taken.”
In November 2024, Finnish authorities arrested Ekpa along with four others on charges related to terrorism, including incitement to violence and financing terrorist activities.
A Finnish court in Lahti ordered Ekpa’s remand, citing probable cause for public incitement to commit crimes with terrorist intent in Nigeria.
Ekpa is accused of leveraging social media platforms to promote separatist propaganda and advocate for the violent secession of southeastern Nigeria.
