Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to resign from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over alleged anti-party activities.
Governor Mohammed accused Wike of serving the interests of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and urged him to officially join the party. He dismissed Wike’s attempts to tarnish his reputation as desperate and ineffective, stating that Nigerians are not deceived by the minister’s alleged pretense.
The dispute escalated after Bala Mohammed, on Thursday, labeled Wike a “transactional politician” whose loyalty is dictated by personal ambition.
In response, Wike, through a statement by his media aide, Lere Olayinka, described the Bauchi governor as a greedy politician. He also criticized Mohammed’s performance as chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, accusing him of using Wike’s appointment by President Bola Tinubu as an excuse for his own shortcomings.
However, Mohammed, in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, dismissed Wike’s remarks as reckless and deceptive. He accused Wike of a history of betrayal, referencing figures such as Senator John Azuta Mbata, Dr. Peter Odili, and Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi as victims of Wike’s alleged treachery.
The statement further criticized Wike’s tenure, describing him as a “use-and-dump” politician who contributed to internal crises within the PDP, including the removal of former party leaders Uche Secondus and Iyorchia Ayu.
“Let Nyesom Wike be reminded that while he fabricates divisions within the PDP, the party remains resolute and united, save for a few defectors like him who are committed to undermining it for the benefit of the APC. Wike has become a willing tool and favored ally of the ruling party,” the statement read.
Under Bala Mohammed’s leadership, the statement said, the PDP Governors’ Forum and other key organs, including the Board of Trustees, are working to rebuild the party by addressing the damage caused by Wike’s alleged disloyalty.
“Wike’s antics cannot overshadow Bala Mohammed’s achievements. His outbursts reflect the desperation of a man whose political influence is fading.
“It is time for governance, not noise-making. Wike should reflect on his conduct and do the honorable thing—resign and fully align with the APC, which he already serves so eagerly. Until then, his words remain as hollow as his loyalty,” the statement concluded.
