The Oyo State Government has announced a strategic collaboration with neighboring states to strengthen border security against bandits from the northern part of the country.
Governor Seyi Makinde recently disclosed concerns about bandits infiltrating the South-West region through Oyo State. Oyo shares borders with Kwara, Ogun, and Osun states, making it a key transit point.
Fatai Owoseni, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, confirmed during a press briefing on Tuesday that the state is partnering with its neighboring states to address the threat.
Owoseni assured residents of their safety and encouraged them to continue their daily activities without fear, emphasizing the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
“To bolster the state’s security network,” Owoseni said, “the security council will hold expanded meetings involving local government chairmen and traditional rulers.”
He explained that this grassroots approach is critical because local government administrators and traditional rulers are closely connected to the people in their communities.
“The goal is to integrate them into the security framework, ensuring that no area is left vulnerable. Security is everyone’s responsibility, and we must all work together to keep our state safe from bandits and other criminal elements,” Owoseni added.
The Oyo State Government remains steadfast in its efforts to fortify the region against security threats while fostering a collaborative environment for proactive solutions.
