The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in 16 out of the 18 chairmanship seats contested in the Ondo State local government elections.
This was announced on Sunday by the Chairman of the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC), Joseph Aeemo, at the commission’s headquarters in Akure. According to Aeemo, while elections in Ondo West Local Government Area were rescheduled, results from Owo Local Government Area were still pending.
The election, conducted on Saturday, saw participation from 12 political parties vying for both chairmanship and councillorship positions. However, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) opted out of the elections, citing doubts about ODIEC’s ability to conduct a credible poll.

The last local government election in Ondo State was held on August 23, 2020, with the tenure of the elected officials ending on August 22, 2023. Since then, the administration of the state’s 18 local councils has been handled by civil servants, specifically Heads of Local Government Administrations.
