Christopher Onuorah, a beloved maths and science teacher at Staughton College in Melton, Victoria, tragically drowned at Rye Beach on January 3, 2025.

 

The Nigerian-born educator was found floating by a jet ski rider at Tyrone Beach on the Mornington Peninsula, about 100 km from Melbourne.

Emergency services responded to the scene around 5:30 PM, but despite CPR efforts, Mr. Onuorah could not be revived. Known for his dedication to education and his students, he described himself as someone who approached each child as a “unique individual with specific learning needs.”

Friends and colleagues have launched a GoFundMe campaign to repatriate his remains to Nigeria and support his family with burial costs. Organiser Emmanuel Ado described Christopher as “a beacon of light,” deeply loved by all who knew him.

Mr. Onuorah’s life and legacy will be remembered for the kindness, positivity, and passion for learning he brought to countless lives.
