The Kwara State House of Assembly on Thursday passed the state’s 2025 budget, totaling N584.693 billion.
The approved budget represents an increase of over N44.325 billion from the N540.368 billion initially proposed by the executive arm. The increase includes additional allocations for key sectors such as education, health, agriculture, water, housing, youth development, works, and transport.
The budget was passed following the presentation of a report by the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation at the Committee of Supply. The committee’s chairperson, Fatimah Arinola Lawal, representing Ilorin East Constituency, explained that the approved estimate includes a recurrent expenditure of over N205.296 billion, marking a N585 million increase from the initial N204.711 billion. The capital expenditure now stands at over N379.396 billion, reflecting a N43.739 billion rise from the N335.657 billion proposed by the executive.
Lawal emphasized that the budget underwent thorough scrutiny, with relevant government ministries, agencies, and stakeholders providing clarifications before final approval.
The appropriation bill was read for the third time by the Clerk of the House, Alhaji Kareem Olayiwola Ahmed. Following this, Speaker Salihu Yakubu-Danladi directed the clerk to prepare a clean copy of the budget for the governor’s assent.
