Just a week after two major fire incidents rocked Lagos, the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA) has confirmed a fire outbreak that destroyed a one-storey building in the Lekki area of the state.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, disclosed this in a statement issued to the press in Lagos. According to him, the agency received a distress call at about 12:57 p.m. reporting a fire at No. 2A, Abike Sulaiman Street, Lekki Phase 1.
“Upon receiving the distress call via the 767 and 112 emergency toll-free lines, LASEMA immediately deployed its response team from the Lekki Base,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.
He further explained that upon arrival at the scene, the team discovered the one-storey building engulfed in flames. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported.
“The prompt intervention of LASEMA and other emergency responders successfully prevented the fire from spreading to nearby buildings,” he added. “The blaze has been completely extinguished, and a dampening down operation has been carried out.”
This incident comes shortly after two other fire outbreaks in Lagos. On Wednesday, the generator house at the Federal Institute of Industrial Research (FIIRO) in Oshodi was gutted by fire. The following day, another blaze destroyed multi-million naira worth of goods at a plank market on Pipeline Street in the Ikotun area of the state.
