The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has summoned Subomi and Wahab, sons of billionaire businessman Razaq Okoya, for questioning over alleged abuse of the naira.

The controversy began after a video showing the brothers engaging in activities perceived as “abusing” the naira went viral on social media. Public backlash has been intense, with many criticizing the authorities for delays in addressing the issue.

The police officer featured in the viral clip alongside the brothers has already been identified and detained by the Nigeria Police Force.

Prominent activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju commented on the situation via his Facebook page, stating, “The Okoya sons are above the law. A country of two laws — one for the poor and the other for the rich.”

Amid growing public pressure, the EFCC has directed the brothers to appear before the Special Operations team at its office on 15A Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, on Monday, January 13, 2025, for interrogation.

The invitation was reportedly signed by Michael Wetkas, the acting director of the Lagos Directorate of the EFCC.
