The Gombe Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned one Habu Gambo on a single count of fraud involving N14,907,000 before Justice Mashkur Salisu of the Federal High Court, Jalingo, Taraba State.
The charge against Gambo, also known as Abubakar Gambo, states that between November 2020 and February 2022 in Jalingo, Taraba State, he allegedly defrauded Sanusi Gado by fraudulently obtaining N14,907,000 under the pretense of investing in a grain purchase business. The EFCC claims that Gambo knowingly misrepresented the purpose of the funds, an act that contravenes Section 1(1)(b) of the Advanced Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act, 2006, and is punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act.
The defendant pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.
Following his plea, the prosecution counsel, S.E. Okemini, requested a trial date. However, the defense counsel, Sale Abdullahi, applied for bail on behalf of the defendant. The prosecution opposed the bail application, citing the defendant’s previous violation of administrative bail conditions granted by the EFCC.
Justice Salisu remanded the defendant at the Jalingo Correctional Centre and adjourned the case to February 20, 2025, for trial commencement.
