A mild drama unfolded at the Lagos State House of Assembly complex on Monday as lawmakers chanted Mojisola Meranda’s name, celebrating her as their Speaker.
Meranda had recently been sworn in as the Speaker following the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa.
On Monday morning, lawmakers accompanied Meranda to her new office amidst chants and praises. In a show of support, they encouraged her to continue her leadership.
“Madam, continue your work; your work is appealing to us. You are the Speaker, you are the Speaker, you are the Speaker,” they cheered. “Speak for Lagos. Continue with your work.”
Meanwhile, Obasa rejected his impeachment, arguing that the process was not conducted properly.
