The Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, is mourning the tragic loss of one of its staff members, Mr. Olisaemeka Chukwuma.
Chukwuma, 56, who worked in the Bursary Department, was assassinated at his residence in the St. Bridges area of Umueji, Asaba, the Delta State capital, over the weekend. Reports indicate that he had returned to Asaba for his routine weekend visit when the attack occurred.
Mrs. Otimeyin Ekakitie-Omajuwa, the institution’s bursar, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as both shocking and unexpected. “He was a very jovial and kind person who maintained excellent relationships with everyone. He was always smiling and never raised his voice at anyone,” she said, praying for strength for Chukwuma’s family in their time of grief.
Similarly, another staff member, Mr. Moses Darah, shared his condolences on Facebook, highlighting the deceased’s peaceful and cheerful personality. He called on the police to investigate the matter thoroughly and bring the culprits to justice. “Asaba is no longer safe. We are deeply troubled by this situation,” he lamented.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident and assured the public that an investigation is underway.
