Last Thursday, Joy filled the Idotun Community Junior High School in Lekki as Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals, in collaboration with Dangote Fertilisers Limited, awarded scholarships to 473 students from 10 secondary schools and seven tertiary institutions.
In addition to the scholarships, the company donated 804 tables and chairs to secondary schools in its host communities in Ibeju-Lekki. The event, part of the fifth edition of the Dangote Scholarship Award Programme, also saw the distribution of educational materials such as textbooks and notebooks. Students, parents, teachers, and community leaders celebrated the initiative.
Devakumar Edwin, Group Vice President of Oil & Gas at Dangote Industries Limited, described the programme as a partnership between Dangote Industries and its host communities, aimed at fostering sustainable growth through education, innovation, and opportunity. He highlighted the company’s dedication to education as a cornerstone of its Community Development Plan, launched in 2019, and reiterated its commitment to empowering future leaders.
“Education is the passport to the future. At Dangote, we believe it is not a privilege but a right that every child deserves. This belief has driven our continued support for students and schools in our host communities,” Edwin said.
Olayinka Akande, Managing Director of Dangote Industries Free Zone Development Company (DIFZDC), urged the scholarship recipients to strive for excellence, a core value of Dangote Industries. He encouraged them to remain dedicated and diligent, inspiring them to aim for prominent roles such as governors, ministers, or captains of industry in the future.
Ogunleye Mojisola, Head of Social Performance at Dangote Petroleum & Petrochemicals, emphasized that education was one of the four pillars of the company’s Community Development Plan.
Chief Adewale Salami, the Aro of Lekki Kingdom, representing the Oni of Lekki, expressed gratitude to Dangote Industries for its commitment to shaping the future of the community, assuring the company of the kingdom’s continued support.
Alhaji Wasiu Ayeola, Chairman of the Lekki Coastal Area Development Association, praised Aliko Dangote, the founder of Dangote Industries Limited, for transforming the region from a hunting ground into a multibillion-dollar investment hub benefiting the local community, Lagos State, Nigeria, and the world.
