The Brazilian government announced on Friday that Nigeria has officially accepted an invitation to become a partner country in the BRICS multinational bloc.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by Brazil’s Foreign Ministry. Brazil, which will hold the BRICS presidency in 2025, highlighted Nigeria’s active role in fostering cooperation in the Global South and advocating for reforms in global governance, aligning with BRICS priorities.
The statement noted, “As the 6th most populous nation in the world, the largest in Africa, and one of the continent’s leading economies, Nigeria shares converging interests with other BRICS member nations.”
Reports indicate that Nigeria joins BRICS as a partner alongside eight other countries from Latin America, Eastern Europe, and Asia, further strengthening the bloc’s global influence.
