The Borno State Executive Council has officially approved the renaming of Borno State University (BOSU) to Kashim Ibrahim University, Maiduguri, in honor of Sir Kashim Ibrahim, the first Governor of Northern Nigeria.
Governor Babagana Zulum announced the decision during the council’s inaugural meeting of 2025. Prof. Usman Tar, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, stated that this move pays tribute to Sir Kashim Ibrahim’s enduring legacy in leadership and governance.
The name change will take effect after necessary legislative amendments and notifications are sent to relevant bodies, including the National Universities Commission (NUC) and JAMB. In addition, the council has approved an urban renewal initiative that will involve street naming and house numbering in Maiduguri and other urban areas.
