Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has criticized those asking for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Ahmad said anyone supporting Kanu’s release is against Nigeria. He wrote:
“Anyone asking for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, a terrorist and leader of the banned group IPOB, is an enemy of this country.”

Nnamdi Kanu was arrested by the Nigerian government for promoting Biafra’s secession and the breakup of Nigeria. Despite court rulings in his favor, Kanu is still held by the Department of State Services (DSS).

In June 2021, Kanu was rearrested in Kenya and brought back to Nigeria to continue his trial. However, his case has faced delays after he asked Justice Binta Nyako of the Abuja Federal High Court to step down. The judge agreed and sent the case to the Chief Judge for reassignment.

Kanu has also filed a complaint with the National Judicial Council (NJC), accusing Justice Nyako of misconduct.
