The Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to refrain from making baseless allegations and spreading unfounded propaganda concerning an alleged assassination attempt on Senator Lawal Adamu Usman, who represents Kaduna Central in the National Assembly.
In a statement issued on Friday by its State Secretary, Alhaji Yahaya Baba Pate, the APC dismissed the PDP’s accusations of complicity as “false and absurd,” urging the opposition party to embrace its role as a constructive critic rather than resorting to smear campaigns.
The PDP had alleged that the APC was involved in the purported murder attempt. However, the APC countered that the Kaduna State Police Command had disclosed Senator Usman neither filed a formal complaint nor cooperated with their investigations.
“Despite repeated attempts by the police to contact him, the Senator remains unresponsive. It is, therefore, perplexing how the PDP arrived at its baseless conclusion implicating the APC,” the statement read.
The APC called on both Senator Usman and the PDP to cooperate fully with the police investigation, warning that failure to do so would fuel suspicions that the allegations were fabricated to malign the ruling party and disrupt the prevailing peace in Kaduna State.
The statement alleged that “certain conflict entrepreneurs” might be using the PDP to derail the progress achieved under Governor Uba Sani’s administration, which the APC described as people-focused and inclusive.
The APC further criticized the PDP’s history of making “ill-conceived and patently false statements,” accusing the opposition of undermining the seriousness of public discourse in Kaduna State.
“This reckless behavior reflects the PDP’s deteriorating standards, as critical issues are often addressed without proper scrutiny or due diligence,” the statement noted.
Despite the allegations, the APC reiterated its commitment to maintaining stability and progress in Kaduna State, emphasizing that efforts to disrupt governance would fail.
“Kaduna State remains on a trajectory of growth and stability, and no amount of fabricated narratives or orchestrated incidents will derail this progress,” the APC stated.
The party reaffirmed its dedication to delivering on its promises, with Governor Uba Sani declaring 2025 as the “Year of Fulfilment.”
“We remain focused on delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Kaduna State in an atmosphere of peace and stability, undistracted by baseless allegations or needless provocations,” the statement concluded.
