Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has clarified that there is no merger deal with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), or any other party ahead of the 2027 general election.

Obi made this statement during a State of the Nation press conference held in Abuja on Thursday.

This follows recent comments by Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the NNPP, who denied being part of an alleged agreement involving opposition leaders collaborating for the 2027 elections. According to Kwankwaso, some northern religious and political leaders were informed by the camp of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s 2023 candidate, of a supposed arrangement where he and Obi would alternate the presidency from 2027.

Addressing the matter, Obi reaffirmed that no such agreement has been made with any party. He also criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for what he described as the mismanagement of the country’s resources. Obi urged all patriotic Nigerians to unite in 2027 to defeat the APC.
