At least 12 people lost their lives, and several others sustained injuries in a tragic multiple auto crash on Wednesday in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.

The accident occurred around 5:35 p.m. in the Oko-Olowo area along the Ilorin-Jebba highway and involved a trailer with registration number AYE 218XC and another vehicle, a Canter truck with registration number TTN 556 XA. Eyewitnesses reported a head-on collision between the two vehicles.

One of the vehicles was reportedly transporting cows and passengers from Ilorin to Ogbomoso, Oyo State, while the trailer was en route from Lagos to Kano.

Emergency responders and officers from the ‘G’ Division Police Command, Oloje, arrived promptly at the scene to manage the situation. The injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, while families of the deceased evacuated their bodies.

Although the cause of the accident remains under investigation, preliminary reports suggest reckless driving and excessive speeding contributed to the tragic incident.

Speaking on the crash, the Kwara State FRSC Sector Commander, Muftau Irekeola, confirmed the incident but said, “I am still waiting for the details from my boys in Olooru unit.”
