The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has reiterated that the use of firecrackers, knockouts, and other fireworks is prohibited during the Christmas and New Year celebrations in Abuja.

In a statement by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the ban is aimed at safeguarding lives and property and ensuring the safety of residents throughout the festive period.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, stressed that these items can cause “unnecessary panic and anxiety” within communities in the capital. The statement also highlighted that firecrackers pose significant risks, such as fire outbreaks and other avoidable incidents.

SP Adeh warned that anyone caught selling or using these prohibited items would be arrested and prosecuted. The police urged community leaders and residents to educate the public on the dangers associated with firecrackers and fireworks.
