Nigerians have made a significant impact on the list of Africa’s Most Talked About People of 2024, published by Top Charts Africa.
Eighteen Nigerians secured their place in the top 30 rankings, which were recently announced on the chart body’s website. Leading the list is Nigerian musician Wizkid, who has remained in the spotlight throughout the year due to his ongoing rivalry with Davido and the release of his latest album, ‘Morayo.’
Kenya’s President William Ruto occupies the second position. He garnered international attention in June when mass protests erupted in response to proposed tax hikes. Following unrest in the Kenyan Parliament, Ruto announced the rejection of the controversial Bill and enacted the “Appropriations Bill 2024” on June 28 to resolve budget shortfalls.
Nigerian afrobeats star Davido ranks third, with his year-long media presence peaking at his extravagant wedding to Chioma in June, dubbed ‘Chivido 2024.’
Completing the top 10 are: Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Dangote Group’s Aliko Dangote, former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Nigerian crossdresser Bobrisky, South African singer Tyla, Nigerian politician Peter Obi, and South African music artist Liema Pantsi. Notably, Baltasar Engonga, the controversial former Equatoguinean public official who captured online attention after intimate videos surfaced, is also featured on the list.
