Three students of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, lost their lives in a tragic road accident along the Ilisan-Ago Iwoye Road on Friday.
The Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday, noting that the crash occurred around 3:30 p.m.
According to the statement, the students were passengers in a commercial Opel Safira vehicle, which veered off the road and flipped into the bush due to overspeeding.
“One male passenger, suspected to be an OOU student, died on the spot. His body has been deposited at the General Hospital in Ijebu Ode,” Odutola stated.
Two female students, identified as 18-year-old Mass Communication sophomore Dada Oluwanifesimi and 19-year-old junior Miracle Ogo Oluwa Daniel, were rushed to Love and Care Hospital but succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Adekunkle Adebiyi of 5 Sunmibare Street, Awa Ijebu, reportedly lost control of the car while driving at high speed from Ago Iwoye towards Ilisan.
Two other students who sustained severe injuries are receiving treatment at the OOU Medical Centre on the Mini Campus.
“The vehicle involved in the accident, with licence plate Lagos AAA-126HE, has been recovered and is secured at the police station,” the statement added.
