There is growing concern in Anambra State over the sudden disappearance of Most Rev. Prof. Godwin Okpala, the retired Archbishop of the Niger Province and Bishop of Nnewi.
Reports indicate that Archbishop Okpala was last seen on Friday when he set out for a journey to Umuchu, a community in the state. As of the time of this report, neither he nor his driver has been located, sparking fears of a possible abduction.
A prayer alert issued on Saturday by Rt. Rev. Ndubuisi Obi, the Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, called for intercessory prayers for the Archbishop’s safety and quick return.
The statement read:
“PRAYER ALERT from BISHOP Ndubuisi Obi of Nnewi Diocese
Dearly Beloved People of God,
With a deeply burdened heart, we inform you of the distressing news concerning our revered Father in God, Most Rev. Prof. Godwin Okpala, who has been missing since yesterday morning.
He embarked on a journey to Umuchu accompanied by his driver but, unfortunately, never arrived at his destination. There has been no communication since, and neither the Archbishop, his driver, nor their vehicle has been located.
We earnestly plead for your fervent prayers for their safety and swift return. Relevant authorities have been notified, and we remain hopeful, trusting in God’s divine intervention for a positive resolution.
Please join us in intercessory prayers, trusting in the Lord, whose watchful eyes never slumber, to bring our beloved Father in God and his driver back to us safely.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Command, Toochukwu Ikenga, stated he was not yet aware of the situation.
Anambra State has been experiencing a rise in violent activities attributed to unknown gunmen, heightening concerns about the Archbishop’s safety. Authorities and the Church continue to seek divine and practical solutions to ensure his safe return.
