Taraba State Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas is mourning the tragic loss of his younger sister, Atsi Kefas, who has passed away just days after sustaining a gunshot wound during an attack on her vehicle along the Wukari-Kente road in the Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.

A family source revealed that Atsi succumbed to her injuries in Abuja late at night. Reports indicate that a police escort accidentally discharged his firearm while responding to the assailants, resulting in a fatal injury to her abdomen.

“It’s heartbreaking to have lost her last night. We are deeply saddened by this tragic event,” the family member conveyed to our correspondent over the phone.

Atsi Kefas was renowned for her humility and kindness, leading to an outpouring of tributes from friends, family, and supporters on social media. Kelvin Kuffi expressed his grief in a WhatsApp group dedicated to the governor’s initiatives, stating, “Atsi was a close friend for over two decades. Our friendship blossomed during our time at Taraba State Polytechnic, Wukari. She embodied humility and selflessness, and her presence was always a source of joy.”

Murtala Atumba extended his condolences, remarking, “This is truly unfortunate. My heartfelt sympathies go out to His Excellency, the Governor, the First Family, and all those who are grieving. May the Lord provide comfort during this difficult time.”

Other social media users, including Joseph Agbu and Sintali, shared messages of support for Governor Kefas and his family, with Joseph expressing, “May the Lord comfort H.E. Dr. Agbu Kefas and his entire family in light of this devastating loss.”

The incident has shocked the state, prompting many to call for prayers for the governor and his family during this trying period. Atsi Kefas is remembered as a compassionate individual whose kindness touched the lives of many, marking her passing as a significant loss for her family and the people of Taraba State.

When approached for comments, Mr. Emmanuel Bello, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communication, refrained from speaking on the matter, suggesting that family sources would be more appropriate to address details regarding the governor’s sister’s passing.

As of now, there has been no official statement from the state government or the family regarding details on the funeral arrangements.
