The Bilaro Oluodo Ruling House of Ilesa has announced the election of Prince Clement Adesuyi Haastrup as the new Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland.
Speaking on Friday, Isaac Haastrup, the spokesperson for the ruling house, confirmed the development.
He revealed that Prince Adesuyi, formerly the Looja of the Ruling House, emerged victorious as Owa Obokun Ajimoko III after defeating nine other candidates in a transparent selection process.
The election took place at the Ilesa West Local Government Secretariat along the Ilesa-Oshogbo motorway, with six Iwora Mefa kingmakers and seven senior Agba Ijesa leaders playing key roles. The kingmakers included prominent figures such as Oba Omokehinde Oyeleye, Oba Olufemi Agunsoye (Elegboro), Oba Festus Awogboro, and High Chief Saka Fapohunda, among others.
Announcing the results, Felicia Olabimtan, Head of Local Government Administration in Ilesa West, declared that Prince Haastrup secured the highest votes, earning the coveted title. She noted that while six kingmakers participated in the voting, one was absent, and seven others were ineligible.
The Ogboni of Ibokun, Oba Festus Awogboro, and the Elegboro of Ijesaland, Oba Olufemi Agunsoye, described the process as peaceful and commended the smooth conduct of the exercise.
They extended their congratulations to the Owa-elect and the people of Ijesaland, expressing optimism for a prosperous new chapter under his reign.
