The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper identified as Mohammed Bello, also known as “Dandolo.”
In a statement issued on Thursday in Ilorin, the spokesperson for the command, DSP Ejire Adeyemi Toun, revealed that the arrest followed actionable intelligence from Egbe, Kogi State, indicating that the suspect had fled to Patigi, Kwara State, to evade capture.
According to the statement, Mohammed Bello is believed to have been involved in multiple kidnapping operations in Egbe, Isanlu, and neighboring areas in Kogi State. Acting on this intelligence, the command deployed a surveillance team to track his movements. The team conducted an extensive search of various locations, including hotels in Patigi, before eventually apprehending the suspect at an undisclosed location.
The operation, carried out in collaboration with the Nigerian Army’s Forward Operation Base (FOB) in Egbe, Kogi State, was led by Lieutenant Isah.
Following his arrest, the suspect was transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Ilorin for further investigation.
During preliminary questioning, Mohammed Bello reportedly confessed to participating in several kidnapping incidents along the Omu-Aran-Ilofa-Osi-Eruku-Egbe road in Kwara State, as well as on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, assured the public of a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents in Kwara State and surrounding areas.
The command also expressed gratitude to members of the public and security partners for their swift action and cooperation in the case. Citizens were encouraged to continue providing timely information to support efforts to combat crime.
