A prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Niyi Adams, has warned that the party may have no future in the 2027 general elections unless it enforces discipline among its members.
Adams, a former State Youth Leader, shared this perspective during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Monday. He stressed that the PDP’s chances of a political comeback in 2027 would remain slim if it continues to tolerate indiscipline and anti-party activities.
Adams, who also served as the Director of Campaign and Strategy during the PDP’s 2023 governorship election campaign, criticized the lack of accountability within the party. He argued that the party’s failure to address internal conflicts and indiscipline has weakened it since losing national power in 2015.
“Some people see anti-party activities as normal, but the leadership must stop condoning it if the PDP is serious about winning in 2027,” he said.
Adams highlighted the need for reconciliation but insisted that it must be accompanied by strict enforcement of discipline.
“I’m not against reconciliation, but it must come with boundaries. Without clear limits, the same issues will persist. We’ve been reconciling for years, yet nothing changes. Doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results is unrealistic,” he stated.
He emphasized that reconciliation efforts without instilling discipline would be a waste of time, adding that failure to address these issues would have serious consequences in the next election.
Adams also urged party leaders to move past the setbacks of the 2023 general elections and focus on rebuilding.
Calling the party’s current state “unfortunate,” he noted that Nigerians are looking to the PDP for leadership and solutions to the country’s challenges.
He further alleged that external forces have contributed to the party’s crisis and called for accountability within the PDP, emphasizing that actions must have consequences to restore the party’s strength and credibility.
