The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General YD Ahmed, has called for a united effort to locate Yahaya Farouk, a Corps Member who has been reported missing in Ikuru Town, Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
General Ahmed made the appeal during a visit to the host community of the missing Corps Member. Addressing residents, including youth leaders and elders, he urged them to collaborate with security agencies to expedite the search. He emphasized the NYSC’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and welfare of Corps Members nationwide while highlighting the shared responsibility of host communities to safeguard and support those serving within their domain.
“The essence of my visit is to appeal for your assistance in finding this Corps Member, who left his state to serve the nation here in your community,” General Ahmed said.
As part of his visit, the NYSC DG inspected the scene where the incident occurred and reiterated the need for collective action.
In response, the community leaders expressed their commitment to ongoing search efforts. Mr. Etete Jerb Anthony, the Youth President, and Mr. Paul Friday, the Ward Secretary, acknowledged the community’s efforts thus far and reassured the Director General that they remain dedicated to locating the missing Corps Member.
The incident reportedly took place at a Chinese mining company within the community, where Farouk was last seen. Despite the challenges, the community leaders assured General Ahmed that search and rescue operations are actively underway.
The NYSC, through its Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, expressed gratitude to all stakeholders involved in the search efforts and urged for continued collaboration to bring the matter to a positive resolution.
