The Edo State Police Command has arrested a man, Theophilus Osazuwa, for allegedly killing his four-year-old son, Testimony Osazuwa.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Moses Yamu, the tragic incident occurred on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at Ogbeson Quarters, off Benin-Agbor Road, Benin City.

Yamu disclosed in a statement on Wednesday night that Osazuwa, suspected to be under the influence of hard drugs, had returned home around 12:30 p.m. and suddenly exhibited erratic behaviour. He reportedly screamed “Holy Ghost fire,” grabbed his son, and slammed him against a wall.

The child was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Preliminary investigations suggest the suspect’s actions were influenced by his consumption of illicit substances.

The Commissioner of Police in Edo State, Umoru Ozigi, condemned the incident and used the opportunity to warn youths about the dangers of drug abuse. He emphasized the severe consequences of consuming harmful substances, which can endanger their lives and the safety of others.

Osazuwa remains in police custody as investigations continue.
