Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has stated that leaders selected by God are more likely to succeed than those influenced by Satan. He emphasized that not all leaders are divinely chosen, suggesting that some are shaped by satanic influences.
Obasanjo expressed these views on Sunday during an interactive Zoom session titled “Boiling Point Arena”, which was broadcast by private radio stations in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The discussion focused on his governmental legacies and his perspective on Nigeria’s current state.
Citing Biblical examples such as Joseph, Moses, and David, Obasanjo highlighted how God often prepares individuals for leadership roles without their knowledge.
He explained:
“It depends on what side you are on. God has a way of preparing people for leadership even without them realizing it. For instance, Joseph had dreams hinting at his future as a leader, while Moses had no such dreams but was still prepared for leadership by God. Most leaders are prepared and placed by God, and when this happens, their chances of success are much higher than those who impose themselves as leaders without divine backing.”
However, the former president disagreed with the belief that all leaders are created by God, arguing that some are products of satanic influence.
“A leader can also be made by Satan. In the story of Job, Satan was allowed to test Job after challenging his integrity before God. Satan is real and powerful; his influence should never be underestimated,” he said.
Obasanjo also stressed the importance of thorough preparation and training for effective leadership, regardless of one’s divine or otherwise origins.
