Human rights lawyer Malcolm Omirhobo has labeled President Bola Tinubu a hypocrite following remarks made during the presidential media chat.

Omirhobo contends that it is contradictory for Tinubu to instruct Nigerians to manage their electricity bills by turning off lights when he has yet to address the high cost of governance himself.

He expressed his views on X, stating, “It is hypocritical for Tinubu to tell Nigerians to manage their electricity bills by turning off lights while he refuses to reduce the cost of governance.”

During the media chat, Tinubu encouraged citizens to adapt by switching off lights to cut down on their electricity expenses. This comes after his administration increased electricity tariffs and eliminated fuel subsidies shortly after he took office in May 2023.

Furthermore, on April 3, 2024, the electricity regulatory body announced another hike in tariffs for Band A customers, raising the cost from N66 to N225 per kilowatt hour.
