The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has refuted media claims suggesting that he owes outstanding payments to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) regarding land titles.
In a statement released on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Krishi, Abbas clarified that he only possesses one land allocation in the FCT and has settled all related payments as of October 2024, in accordance with the FCTA’s announcements.
He described the FCTA’s decision to list him among individuals with overdue payments, which led to the revocation of land titles, as an error. He urged the FCTA to exercise greater caution in managing such matters.
“The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D, GCON, has been made aware of reports in both print and electronic media indicating that the FCTA has revoked land titles held by various individuals, including himself, due to unpaid outstanding payments,” the statement read.
“For clarity, Speaker Abbas Tajudeen has only one land allocation in the FCT, and all payments were settled in October 2024, following the FCTA’s newspaper notifications.”
He emphasized that it was incorrect for the FCTA to list him among those with outstanding payments, resulting in the unjust revocation of land titles. The FCTA is encouraged to handle these matters with greater diligence.
The Speaker also cautioned the media to verify facts before publishing such information, urging them to refrain from disseminating misleading reports regarding his situation.
