Senator Saliu Mustapha, representing Kwara Central in the National Assembly, has called for the inclusion of retired permanent secretaries in governance and policymaking.
Speaking on Friday at the Annual Conference of the Association of Retired Permanent Secretaries, Kwara Chapter, in Ilorin, Mustapha highlighted the invaluable contributions these seasoned administrators could make to addressing Nigeria’s challenges. He described them as “pillars upon which Nigeria has stood.”
Represented by a retired permanent secretary, Kale Yusuf, the senator emphasized the critical role their expertise and wisdom could play. “Retirement for individuals of your caliber is not the end of service but the beginning of a new phase,” Mustapha remarked.
He added, “You were the silent architects of governance, translating policies into actionable programs and ensuring the smooth functioning of our administrative systems. Your insights, now unencumbered by the pressures of office, are invaluable for nation-building.”
Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board, also lauded the pivotal role of permanent secretaries in policy formulation, implementation, and evaluation. He stressed their importance in driving effective governance and sustainable development.
