The Kwara State Government has lauded the Jimoh Kolawole Yussuf (JKY) Foundation for its impactful contributions to digital literacy and STEM education in the state.
Speaking at the launch of the foundation’s second phase of the tech empowerment programme on December 9, 2024, at the One Innovation Hub (ONEIH) in Offa, Mr. Kayode Ishola, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Digital Innovations, commended the foundation for its dedication to empowering young minds with critical technological skills.
“The JKY Foundation is playing a pivotal role in preparing our students for the digital future.
“Their commitment to advancing education and fostering technological innovation aligns perfectly with the state government’s vision for a digitally literate Kwara,” he said.
The programme, which targets Senior Secondary 1 (SS1) students from public schools, is designed to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education. Running in two batches, each accommodating 20 students per week, the first phase began today and will continue until December 13, while the second batch is scheduled for December 16 to December 20, 2024.
Mrs. Ayodeji B.O., the Secretary of Education for Offa Local Government, also praised the initiative, encouraging students to take full advantage of the training.
She emphasized the importance of digital literacy in achieving academic and professional success.
Comrade Raji Tajudeen, NUT Chairman of Offa and Principal of Nawarudeen Senior Secondary School, expressed gratitude to the JKY Foundation for its consistent efforts in educational development.
“This initiative is a blessing for our students. It is my hope that the foundation continues its incredible work in empowering the younger generation,” he said.
The Hub Manager, Mr. Kolawole Wasiu Lawal, explained that the programme features an onboarding process to assess participants and tailor the training to their specific needs.
He also highlighted the success of the foundation’s previous one-month training programme, which provided foundational tech skills to 25 young participants.
Participating schools in this phase include Nawarudeen Secondary School, Iyeru Okin Offa Grammar School, Offa Community Secondary School, and others, representing a total of ten institutions.
Established in 2019 by the children of the late Alhaji Jimoh Kolawole Yussuf, the JKY Foundation focuses on initiatives in Infrastructure, Sports, and Education (ISE).
Through this tech empowerment programme, the foundation aims to bridge the digital divide, inspire innovation, and empower students in Offa and beyond.
Students participating in the programme expressed excitement and gratitude, with many noting how the training has sparked their interest in technology and opened their minds to future career possibilities in STEM fields.
