Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has suffered a second personal tragedy in as many days, losing his eldest son, Abdulwahab Umar Namadi, in a motor accident on Thursday.
The accident occurred just a day after the governor’s mother, Maryam Namadi, passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.
Reports indicate that Abdulwahab was traveling from Kafin Hausa to Dutse with friends when the vehicle he was driving lost control and somersaulted. While Abdulwahab tragically lost his life, some of his friends sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at Dutse General Hospital.
In a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Hamisu Gumel, the family confirmed the devastating news. “With a heavy heart, Governor Umar Namadi announces the passing of his beloved son, Abdulwahab Umar Namadi,” the statement read.
“The 24-year-old died in a ghastly motor accident along the Dutse-Kafin-Hausa Road on Thursday, December 26, 2024. Burial rites are currently taking place in Kafin Hausa town in line with Islamic traditions.”
Abdulwahab is survived by his parents, Governor Umar Namadi and his wife, as well as his siblings.
The loss has plunged the state into mourning, with residents and well-wishers expressing their heartfelt condolences to the governor and his family during this difficult time.
