The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has emphasized the need for continuous training of police personnel in administrative duties, weapon handling, musketry, and combat crafts.
This initiative aims to enhance the capacity of officers, revitalize the Nigeria Police Force, and align its operations with modern global standards.
The IGP disclosed this during the ongoing training and skills development program for police officers at the Passing Out Parade of SPU personnel, held at the Peace Keeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The comprehensive five-day program covers critical topics such as administrative roles and principles, the fundamental duties of administrators, and practical exercises in weapon handling, musketry, and combat craft essentials.
Reiterating his directive for similar programs across all Police Commands and Formations, the IGP stated:
“This includes conducting extensive training and retraining exercises, alongside orientation on Policing Ethics and Professional Conduct, to foster behavioral and attitudinal changes within the Force.”
According to the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, this initiative is part of the IGP’s broader vision to integrate Policing Ethics and Professional Conduct into continuous training for all officers.
The IGP has mandated that every officer must complete at least one course on this topic annually.
This directive underscores his commitment to enhancing the efficiency of the Nigeria Police Force in a rapidly evolving society.
As part of this vision, over 360 officers from the Nigeria Police Safe School Protection Squad are currently undergoing specialized training at the Police Mobile Force Training Camp in Ende Hills, Nasarawa State.
This tailored program equips officers with critical skills to effectively safeguard educational institutions across the country, demonstrating the Force’s dedication to ensuring the safety and security of all schools nationwide.
