Former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has disclosed that he financed the construction of a mansion for his predecessor and former political ally, Peter Odili.
Wike, now serving as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), made the revelation on Sunday during a Special Thanksgiving Service organized by the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule, in Port Harcourt.
The FCT Minister’s comments were in response to recent allegations by Odili, who accused Wike of trying to control the affairs of Rivers State.
Wike stated, “When I was governor, I commissioned Julius Berger to build a mansion for Odili. He invited people to the house, proudly showing them what I had done for him, saying, ‘Wike has shown me love.’ He took them around the house.”
Wike also criticized Odili for praising the current Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, as surpassing the achievements of all past governors within his first year in office.
“You were governor for eight years, and now you claim that someone who hasn’t even spent one year in office has surpassed all records. What kind of elder speaks like this? Is this the behaviour of an elder statesman?” Wike questioned.
Reflecting on their deteriorated relationship, Wike revealed that Odili once filled his mansion with photos of him.
“When I was governor, my pictures were everywhere in his house—sitting room, bedroom, kitchen, even in the toilet. My pictures were everywhere. But today, all those pictures have been removed,” Wike said.
