Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Yusuf, has announced the formation of the Kano State Shura Council, appointing Shehu Wada Sagagi, the immediate past Chief of Staff whose office was dissolved on Thursday, as the Secretary.
The council will be chaired by Professor Shehu Galadanci, with Professor Muhammad Sani Zahraddeen serving as Vice Chairman.
Other prominent appointees include Sheikh Abdulwahhab Abdallah, Sheikh Karibullah Nasiru Kabara, Dr. Bashir Aliyu Umar, and Sheikh Tijjani Bala Kalarawi.
In a statement released on Friday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the council comprises 46 members, including renowned Islamic scholars, respected academics, and prominent community leaders. The Shura Council is tasked with providing expert guidance to the government on critical socio-economic and religious matters.
“Prominent members also include Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, Professor Salisu Shehu, Dr. Muhammad Borodo, and Khalifa Hassan Kafinga, among others,” the statement highlighted.
The Secretary of the council, Shehu Wada Sagagi, will also serve as the Head of the Secretariat, overseeing operations to ensure smooth coordination and efficiency.
According to Tofa, the initiative reflects Governor Yusuf’s commitment to inclusive governance and collaboration with diverse stakeholders, aiming to strengthen Kano’s cultural and religious institutions.
“The Shura Council, as the apex socio-religious body, is expected to play a pivotal role in promoting peace, unity, and development across the state,” the spokesperson added.
Governor Yusuf, while congratulating the appointees, expressed confidence in their qualifications, integrity, and dedication to effectively delivering on their mandates.
