German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is set to arrive in Nigeria on Tuesday for a two-day state visit, according to a statement released by the German Embassy on Monday.
During his visit, President Steinmeier will meet with Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Alieu Omar Touray, President of the Commission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The statement also noted that the German leader will travel to Lagos, where he plans to engage with business leaders, visit a start-up hub, and interact with prominent figures from Nigeria’s cultural and civil society sectors, including Dr. Nike Okundaye and Professor Wole Soyinka.
In Lagos, President Steinmeier will tour the city to gain insights into urban development challenges, including environmental and social issues in the megacity.
He will be accompanied by a business delegation comprising CEOs and senior executives from some of Germany’s leading companies in IT, high-tech, and energy sectors. This reflects Germany’s growing interest in investment opportunities in Nigeria.
“The visit underscores Nigeria’s importance as a political, economic, and cultural partner for Germany in Africa,” the statement concluded.
