The families of Nurudeen Adesiyan and Kehinde Akintunde are appealing for help after the couple was reportedly arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), suspected to be from the agency’s Abuja headquarters.
Nurudeen and Kehinde were said to have been apprehended on November 29 at Arowosola Quarters, Ajape, Modakeke, Osun State. Since their arrest, family members claim the duo has been held incommunicado, with their whereabouts unknown.
Speaking to journalists, Boyenle Adesiyan, Nurudeen’s elder brother, said all efforts to locate the pair have been fruitless.
He explained, “My brother sent me a message around 5 a.m. on November 29, saying security operatives were at our house. I replied immediately, but he didn’t respond. Later, my mother informed me that the officers barged in, seized her phone, and questioned her about a contact named ‘Kehinde 2.’ Unknowingly to them, Kehinde was in the house at the time and standing nearby.
“The officers arrested both Nurudeen and Kehinde, then took my mother to lead them to Kehinde’s residence. There, they ransacked the house, destroyed property, seized phones, and assaulted the victims.”
Boyenle added that while Kehinde’s family members were later released near a community school, Nurudeen and Kehinde were taken away by the operatives.
He continued, “We visited the DSS office in Ile-Ife, where officials confirmed that the operatives were DSS personnel but refused to disclose their origin or the whereabouts of Nurudeen and Kehinde. We just want to know why they were arrested and where they are. They are not criminals and have rights that need to be respected.”
Similarly, Kehinde’s elder brother, Gbenga Akintunde, recounted how the operatives threatened him when he demanded to know his sister’s alleged offense and destination.
“My mother called me early in the morning about the invasion,” Gbenga said. “When I arrived, I confronted the officers, but they threatened to shoot me instead of answering. They broke into our home, beat and arrested everyone, including my mother, and seized our phones before driving away. Later, they released other family members but took Kehinde and her fiancé away.”
Gbenga added that their attempts to trace the couple at the DSS office in Ile-Ife yielded no results. He noted that calls to their phones occasionally go unanswered.
Efforts to obtain a response from the Osun DSS command were unsuccessful. However, a source at the DSS headquarters confirmed that the operation was carried out by personnel from Abuja.
“The operatives were from the national headquarters,” the source revealed.
The DSS head office in Abuja has no designated spokesperson to address the matter.
