The Ex-Service Men and Family Welfare Association of Nigeria has urged the federal government to settle all outstanding pension arrears and entitlements owed to military retirees.
The association’s president, Anthony Agbas, made this appeal during a peaceful demonstration held at the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja on Wednesday.
Agbas highlighted the financial struggles endured by military pensioners over the years.
“We were informed that the funds had been approved a long time ago, yet we have not received anything,” he said.
The association’s demands include:
Payment of palliative arrears from October 2023 to November 2024.
Payment of the 20% to 28% salary increment and its arrears from January to November.
Payment of a flat rate of N32,000 and its arrears from July to November.
Settlement of the new National Minimum Wage increment and its arrears from July to November.
Agbas added that the association serves as an umbrella body for various groups representing retired Nigerian Armed Forces personnel and their families.
In response, an official from the Ministry of Finance assured the protesters that their requests had been approved and were in the process of being implemented.
