Senate President Godswill Akpabio has raised concerns that Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State may retire Senator Adams Oshiomhole if he returns to the Senate.
The governor had previously represented the Edo Central Senatorial District before being elected as the governor of Edo State.
During a valedictory session in honor of Okpebholo, Akpabio expressed his worry, saying, “Distinguished Senator Oshiomhole, before you stop, I thought he was from your senatorial district?” Oshiomhole responded by clarifying that Okpebholo is from Edo Central.
Undeterred, Akpabio followed up with a warning, saying, “Okay, otherwise he may retire you when he comes back.” Oshiomhole shot back, “By the time he’s coming back, I might already be retired, because if you add eight years to the current figure, I do not intend to do three terms here.”
Okpebholo’s return to the Senate would depend on his tenure as governor and any subsequent retirement or loss of office.
