Senate President Godswill Akpabio has asserted that only individuals lacking sound judgment would desire to continue a dispute with the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike.
Speaking on Friday at a public lecture and book launch celebrating Wike’s birthday in Port Harcourt, Akpabio seemingly addressed the ongoing tension between Wike and his successor as Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
As the event’s Special Guest of Honour, Akpabio took the opportunity to critique Governor Fubara’s handling of the political crisis in the state, particularly his interactions with the legislative body.
He highlighted the significance of fostering positive relationships with legislative leaders, sharing insights from his own experience as governor of Akwa Ibom State.
“In politics, it’s crucial to understand that the parliament has immense power—it can significantly alter situations,” Akpabio remarked. “During my time as governor, my primary concern was the House of Assembly, which is why I prioritized a strong relationship with my Speaker.”
He praised Wike’s talent for quickly resolving conflicts, stating, “No one in their right senses would hold onto a quarrel with Wike.”
Addressing Wike directly, Akpabio noted, “Your contributions to Nigeria’s political landscape, both as a governor and now as a minister, are unforgettable. The relationships you’ve forged testify to your dedication to progress and unity.”
